When it comes to heating your home or building efficiently and comfortably, hydronic heating stands out as one of the most effective and future-ready solutions. But what is it exactly, and how does it work in the context of underfloor heating systems like ours?
💧 What Is Hydronic Heating?
At its core, hydronic heating is a method of heating spaces using water. Instead of heating air like traditional radiators or forced-air systems, hydronic systems circulate warm water through a closed loop of pipes, distributing heat evenly and efficiently. It’s quiet, comfortable, and—most importantly—energy efficient.
This water is usually heated by a heat source such as a gas boiler, air-to-water heat pump, or solar thermal system, then circulated through the system to gently warm up the space.
🔁 How It Works in Underfloor Heating
In an underfloor hydronic heating system, the warm water flows through a network of flexible pipes installed beneath your flooring. As the water moves through the pipes, heat radiates upwards, warming the floor surface and gradually heating the room from the ground up.
This delivers several benefits:
-
Even heat distribution – no cold spots or overheated areas
-
Lower running temperatures – the system typically runs between 30–40°C, compared to radiators at 60–75°C
-
Improved energy efficiency – works brilliantly with renewable sources like heat pumps
-
Maximised comfort and space – no bulky radiators needed
🛠️ How Our Systems Make It Even Easier
Traditional hydronic underfloor heating systems can be tricky to install in renovations or upper floors due to screed requirements and floor build-up. That’s where our systems stand out.
We specialise in dry-installed, low-profile solutions that don’t require screed and are perfect for:
-
Retrofits
-
Extensions
-
Upper floors
-
Timber frame buildings
-
Modular construction
Our Key Systems Include:
-
TorFloor2® – Combines structural floor decking and underfloor heating in one, ideal for suspended floors.
-
LowBoard2® – A slimline overlay system, just 22mm thick, ideal for renovations with limited floor height.
-
XPS200 – A high-performance insulation board with integrated aluminium diffusers for rapid heat-up and great responsiveness.
All of our systems use pre-routed panels for pipe placement, making installation simple, clean, and fast—even for first-time installers.
